2010 Summit a Success

Hon. Mel Knight Elected as PNWER President
Alberta Minister of Sustainable Resource Development was elected as the new PNWER President for 2011 during the PNWER Summit.  Minister Knight has been involved with PNWER for many years as both a delegate and Vice President.  Minister Knight is the 14th PNWER President and the third from Alberta.

Regional University Presidents Meet at Summit
Presidents from twelve universities from both sides of the border met during the PNWER Summit in Calgary.  The Presidents agreed to continue this annual meeting during the PNWER Summit and will meet in Portland in 2011.  A liaison was also assigned to represent the group to work closer with PNWER throughout the year.

US Ambassador David Jacobson stated at the Summit, "As I’ve traveled throughout both the US and Canada I have heard from leaders everywhere that PNWER is the ‘Gold Standard’ in advancing cross-border regional issues."

Public & Private Sector Leadership

Founded in 1991, PNWER is the only statutory, non-partisan, bi-national, public/private partnership in North America. PNWER is the forum for collaborative bi-national planning involving both the public and private sectors and offers leadership at the state/provincial level in Salem, Olympia, Boise, Helena, Juneau, Edmonton, Regina, Victoria, Yellowknife and Whitehorse, and at the national level in Washington, DC and Ottawa.

PNWER facilitates working groups consisting of public and private leaders to address specific issues impacting our regional economy.  Each working group produces an action plan based on regional input.  For information on each working group, please see links below
